The course is intended to assist HSRs understand how the
WHS legislation will influence health and safety outcomes in their workplace. The course aims to familiarise participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to continue to apply the principles of workplace consultation as an integral part of an effective
WHS Management System (WHSMS).
DETAILS: This HSR initial training must be made available to any HSR within 3 months of their request for the training.
REFRESHER: A refresher training course is available if required, for all HSRs to complete every 12 months for all HSRs that have completed the requirements of the 5 day initial HSR training course or the bridging training course.
COURSE OBJECTIVES: This course will provide elected HSRs with information and skills required for HSRs under the WHS legislation including:
an understanding of the new Work Health and Safety (WHS) legislation;
an understanding of how it applies to their role as elected Health and Safety Representatives (HSRs) and deputy HSRs; and
the knowledge and skills necessary to use their new powers under the new WHS legislation in issuing Provisional Improvement Notices and directing unsafe work to cease.
PRE-REQUISITES: Persons eligible for the SafeWork NSW HSR Training are to be a current elected HSRs Representative or deputy HSRs under the WHS Act.
FACILITATOR: Robert Watson is an approved training provider by SafeWork NSW. Robert has experience in community programs, risk management, injury management and has incorporated his extensive skills into this SafeWork NSW designed & approved program, which will further strengthen the learning outcomes for all participants.
